Hi! My name is Gina Myers and I am member of the counseling faculty at EvCC. I provide counseling and advising for students. Counseling may include exploring your relationships, self assessment, educational and career goals, problem solving, decision making, coping with emotional stress, anxiety or depression or help with other areas of your academic and personal life. I provide advising to help with educational planning such as choosing classes, programs and degrees, study skills, as well as entry advising, transfer planning and career and life planning.

Background:
I was born and raised in Bellingham, Washington, attended Western Washington University and received a B.A in Education and a B.A in Music Performance. After pursuing my music and theatre ambitions in New York City, I returned to the Seattle area to teach K-12 Music Education. Eventually, I received my psychology degree from University of Washington and then attended Seattle University for my graduate degree in Educational Counseling.

For over twenty years, I have worked in various capacities in higher education. Before coming to EvCC, I worked in advising and financial aid at two and four year public and private institutions. My husband and I have two great teenagers and a black lab.

Philosophy:
My education, training and experience are in counseling, teaching, and advising students in learning the necessary skills for education, career and life planning. I use a student centered, solution-focused, brief counseling approach using cognitive behavioral interventions in a safe and supportive environment. My hope is that with knowledge, understanding, problem solving and awareness of choices and alternatives, students can be empowered to make life affirming changes and decisions in their lives in order to successful reach their goals.

All issues discussed with me will be confidential except under particular circumstances as cited by RCW 18.19.180.
